Howdy from Dallas Texas.

It’s amazing how many people down here have an accent. “Ya’lls” are prevalent like there’s no tomorrow. I sometimes snicker a little when they say things and I have to try and figure out what exactly they meant.

It was pretty warm here today. I walked out at lunch hour around downtown and it was about 24°. Like Calgary, there’s a ton of tall buildings which block out most of the sun, but when you were in it, you were pretty damn warm. The next few days are supposed to cool down and be pretty windy. Still daytime temperatures of 17 isn’t too damn bad.

There’s a cool little skating rink inside this mini mall ride outside my hotel. If I look out my room window, I can actually see the skating rink. Right now theres some skating lessons going on with little kids. Yesterday evening there was a broom ball game in the evening.

But what’s kind of dumb, like Calgary, their little mini malls with restaurants close at 4 as they only cater to the working crowd. When I was walking outside at lunch I was looking at a map, and of course some bum stopped and asked what I was looking for. He was very helpful and indicated that if I wanted to go to any restaurants that I needed to take the LRT (which is just outside the hotel) down about 3 stops, and I’ll have my choice of restaurants. Of course he asked if I would buy him lunch after he helped me. I would’ve actually, but I had left my wallet in the hotel room.

So I’m off to go get lost in downtown Dallas.

  1. [...] As I mentioned in my previous post, there’s a skating rink in between the hotel and the conference center. In the evening there’s usually some sort of skating going on. Be it figure skating practice or broomball game. As you can see it’s not too big, but it’s enough for little kids to skate around on. [...]
