Yes…25 years and one day ago, a little Matt was born into this world!

My 25th birthday was on Thursday and somehow I knew this years birthday would be a little different. First of all, let’s go back one more day to Wednesday.

Wednesday: I got a phone call at 7:45 am at work from Lisa in the Brandon office. She thought she’d be the first to wish me a happy b-day. I graciously accepted but quickly informed her that the actual date is March 9th. With an “Oh Shit” I was immediately hung up on! Now fine, I can accept a mistake, for it was the thought that count. But then somebody in the Brandon office co-ordinated with a certain person in the Calgary office a mass email to go around, indicating to email me, and even though it wasn’t my birthday, to wish me one anyways.

Now I can take one or two of those, but in a matter of 1/2 hour you get 15 emails and 2 text messages, the “funny” effect kind of wears off

That night Shaun and myself headed out to the Calgary Hitmen hockey game as MNP was sponsoring the game - i.e. free tickets. They lost in a shootout, but anytime you can drink beer and watch hockey, it’s all good in my books.

Now to Thursday:

The plan for my birthday was for Shaun, Dee, Amanda and myself to head out to dinner. I had found out the previous day that after dinner we would head out to Yuk Yuk’s after. OK, cool. So mid day, Dione emails me and says her “ribs” hurt and she’s heading home to rest, and hopefully feel better to come out for supper. Shitty, but what can you do. 4:30 rolls along and I’m the only one left at work on the programmer side as everybody had left early for various activities…happy birthday to me!

As I’m leaving Shaun phones and says he’ll be at Chinook train station to pick me up, and unfortunately Dee can’t make it. So as we walk into the restaurant Amanda is already there, but as the guy walks us to our table, he’s caring like 10 menu’s and he sits us down at a huge table. What the fuck? I few swear words later, I was informed that more then just the 3 of us would be joining us for dinner. Low and behold Dee and the majority of the IT crew are coming out for dinner.
Assholes. I hadn’t a clue. I absolutely had one pulled on me. After dinner we all headed to Yuk Yuk’s for some comedy.

All in all…fantastic night! I’ll put it up there with one of the best birthday’s so far!

  1. [...] Last year was spent out for dinner and then a night at Yuk Yuk’s. It was good times, the only problem being was that I didn’t know what or who was coming. This year, I wouldn’t let that happen again and so I kind of planned my own party. We all headed up to Woody’s Taphouse on 17th for a little night out. Unbeknown to me it was Karaoke night (if I would’ve known, we would have went some where else). Needless to say after a “few” $2 (before 10pm) rye and coke’s I did my not-so-impressive version of “Baby Got Back”! It’s a lot harder when you’re up there then I realized. [...]
