Good Times

26 Sep

Had a kick ass weekend. Here’s the story.

Friday night the social committee at work put on a “drink the town dry” event in which we get on a school bus and head to a small town to try and “drink the town dry”. The basis of this event is to try and go to a small town bar and drink all it’s booze. Well that’s the theory. In reality we give them plenty of notice we’re coming. Still it was good times. We headed down to Cochrane just NW of Calgary, about 25 minutes from downtown and drank for a better part of the night. Some shitty band was playing with the locals giving us stares constantly. Around midnight the bus drove us back to work downtown.

Oh ya, there’s crazy people downtown at night. Well actually not just at night, pretty much anytime.

P.S. A cab ride home from downtown costs about $35. What ever happened to the $7 cab ride home in Brandon :P As always, it was paid for by MNP.

Saturday, I woke up hungover and was called by a friend from work to head out to Callaway Park just on the outskirts of Calgary for the day. I figured the best way to meet new people is to accept this offer so I did and we headed out around noon. Basically Callaway Park is a small amusement park about the size of a Brandon summer fair. We all had coupons for the day and get this, to get in and have unlimited rides…$7. Now that’s what I call a cheap day.

They have the basic rides plus a roller coaster which does a barrel roll. We went on as much as we could and headed back. After getting changed at home from the water log ride, we headed out to Woody’s Pub by the airport. Woody’s is like a small pub about the size of The Roadhouse. They had this game going on all night called “Name that Tune” which involved teams guessing songs after which would play in it’s entirety and people would dance. It was good times.

I guess you could say a celebrity was there, but Canadian Idol loser Amber Fleury was there drinking and smoking her face off. She sang a song though, and I was actually shocked at how good she sounded just on a cheap setup.

And so that was the weekend.

Next weekend Heather is in town on Saturday for a night out and then the following week is Thanksgiving when the parents are in.

Keepin busy in Calgary.
